ADHD Assessments

Our Approach at Harbour Therapy

At Harbour Therapy, our neuropsychologist offers adult ADHD assessments designed to provide clarity, understanding, and practical next steps. Whether you are seeking answers for yourself, or a loved one, our goal is to deliver an assessment process that is respectful, thorough, and supportive.

We believe assessments should feel:

  • Respectful and collaborative

  • Trauma‑informed and neurodiversity‑affirming

  • Focused on strengths as well as challenges

Our neuropsychologist will aim to provide clarity without judgment and recommendations that are practical and realistic for everyday life.

What Is ADHD?

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can affect attention, organization, impulse control, identity and emotional regulation. ADHD can present differently across the lifespan and may look different in children, adolescents, and adults.

Common difficulties may include:

  • Trouble with focus, organization, or time management

  • Forgetfulness or difficulty following through on tasks

  • Feeling overwhelmed by daily responsibilities

  • Academic, workplace, or relationship challenges

  • Restlessness, impulsivity, or emotional reactivity

Why Get an ADHD Assessment?

An ADHD assessment can:

  • Provide a clear explanation for ongoing challenges

  • Help guide appropriate supports at university, work, or home

  • Support accommodations (school, CEGEP, university, or workplace)

  • Inform conversations with your physician about treatment options

  • Reduce self‑blame and improve self‑understanding

  • Offer personalized strategies and recommendations

Who Are ADHD Assessments For?

Our assessments may be appropriate for:

  • University students (18 years old and over) or adults struggling with organization, focus, or burnout

  • Individuals who suspect ADHD but were never assessed earlier in life

  • Those seeking documentation for accommodations or medical follow‑up

What Does the Assessment Process Involve?

1. Initial Intake

The first step is completing the brief intake form on this page. This helps us understand your concerns, history, and goals for the assessment.

A brief consultation may be scheduled to determine whether an ADHD assessment is appropriate and to answer any initial questions you might have.

2. Comprehensive Assessment Appointment(s)

The formal assessment typically includes:

  • A detailed clinical interview (developmental, academic, work, and mental health history)

  • Standardized ADHD questionnaires

  • Screening for other factors that may impact attention (e.g., anxiety, mood, learning differences)

Assessments may be offered in person or virtually, depending on the needs.

3. Diagnostic Formulation & Written Report

Following the assessment:

  • The clinician integrates all information gathered

  • A formal diagnostic conclusion is made (when applicable)

  • A comprehensive written report is prepared (French or English)

The report includes:

  • Diagnostic impressions

  • A clear explanation of findings

  • Personalized recommendations for school, work, therapy, or daily life

  • If requested, documentation suitable for accommodations or medical providers

4. Feedback Session

A feedback session is scheduled to:

  • Review the results together

  • Answer questions

  • Discuss recommendations and next steps
