QUALIFICATIONS
Jesse obtained a bachelor’s degree in psychology from McGill University. She is currently pursuing a PhD in clinical psychology at the University of Montréal. Jesse is registered as a doctoral candidate in psychology with the Ordre des Psychologues du Quebec (OPQ).
APPROACH
Adolescents and adults: Jesse uses an integrative approach, primarily incorporating techniques
from psychodynamic and humanistic/person-centered frameworks. She makes sure to personalize and adapt the treatment plan based on the patient’s specific needs. In general, she aims to assist patients in
uncovering how past experiences and relational patterns contribute to their current difficulties, within an emotionally safe, non-judgmental space. This allows for a better understanding of the roots of one’s struggles, the development of greater self-awareness, a sense of agency, and the capacity for meaningful change.
Children: Jesse conducts play therapy drawing on psychodynamic and humanistic/person-centered frameworks. Play therapy is a first-line treatment for children because play is a child's natural language, allowing them to express thoughts or feelings that may be difficult to verbalize at their developmental stage. Play therapy works in two main ways: 1) through the development and maintenance of a secure relationship between the therapist and the child, and 2) as the therapist observes, follows, and intervenes during the child's play, the child learns to better communicate and process their feelings, learn a variety of ways of relating to others, and develop more adaptive coping strategies.
